Barra György (Zilah, 1901, márc. 26. –Budapest, 1970. okt.31.): középiskolai tanár, szakfelügyelő.

Értelmiségi családból származott, édesapja bíró volt. Nyolcan voltak testvérek. Iskoláit Zilahon végezte, ott érettségizett a Ref. Gimn.-ban. Egyetemi tanulmányait Budapesten folytatta. 1925-ben szerzett matematika-fizika szakos tanári diplomát. Először családoknál volt nevelő, majd 1932-től a debreceni Fazekas Gimnázium majd l937-től a Tanárképző Intézet Gyakorló Isk.-jának a tanára.
A VKM III. főosztályának vezetője, miniszteri tanácsos. Feladatköre a köznevelés ügyeinek az intézése. Hozzátartoztak a tanító, óvónő, tanárképző intézetek és főiskolák, az általános-, közép- és szakiskolák a Nevelés-lélektani Intézetek, a nevelési kísérletek, az iskolák tanulmányi rendje, oktatási módszerek, a diákok rádiója, stb.
A VKM-ből való távozása után az Egri Pedagógiai Főiskola, majd különböző budapesti iskolák (Apáczai Csere János Gimn., Táncsics Gimn., Hámán Kató Közgazdasági Technikum, Varga Katalin Leánygimn.) tanára, illetve szakfelügyelő. Az l960-as években nyugdíjazták, de amíg egészségi állapota megengedte, tanított a Dolgozók Esti Iskolájában.
Debreceni éveit a munkáltató fizika-tanítás, a tesztek bevezetése, a tanárképzés és a matematika szakmódszertan problémáinak szentelte. A minisztériumban eltöltött időszakban az iskolarendszer problémáival foglalkozott. Irodalmi munkássága egyre jobban a lélektani kérdések vizsgálata felé tolódott el.
Az ált. isk. létrehozása után meggyőzően ér-velt a tanulók minél alaposabb megis-merésének szükségessége mellett. Felhívta a figyelmet az egyéniségüknek leginkább meg-felelő tanulmányok kiválasztásának a szükségességére. Gyermeklélektani Állomások szervezését szorgalmazta minden nagyobb iskolaközpontban. .Ezek a vizsgálatok megelőzhették volna az indokolatlan lemorzsolódásokat. Ugyanezt a célt próbálta elérni a pedagógusok által a tanulókról készített naplószerű feljegyzésekkel, amelyekkel a személyi lapokat akarta kicserélni.
A tanítási órákon a munkáltató tanítás és a közvetlen osztályfoglalkoztatás meggyőződéses híve volt.
A Fazekas Gimnáziumban eltöltött évek alatt a tantestületben egy hasonló érdeklődésű segítőtársra és barátra talált Tóth Lajos személyében, akivel együtt kísérletezték ki az új tanítási módszereket, tartották a matematika és fizika bemutató órákat.
